Nimcha sword of Algerian privateer. XVIIth century. L : 71 cm, blade : 58 cm Short blade with two gutters, slightly curved on the first two thirds then strongly widening towards the tip. European blade, with characteristic markings (Italian?) in the gutters on each side. Handle in horn with inlays of tortoiseshell and mother-of-pearl (small misses and accidents). Bronze guard. An old restoration at the junction between the hilt and the guard branch. A similar sword that belonged to the Dutch admiral Michiel de Ruyter (1607-1676), which he is said to have taken from an Algerian privateer in 1655, is preserved and displayed at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
