Al-Bûsîrî. Al-Burda Near East, 18th-19th century Arabic manuscript on paper, text of 14 lines per page in Maghribi script in black and red ink, with some signs in green, and some pages in smaller script of 20 lines. Text in a red frame, and some pages with red interlinear lines. Restored brown leather flap and cover binding with stamped decoration. Accidents (not collated). 27 x 20 cm Al-Bûsîrî (Sharaf al-Din Abu 'Abd Allah Muhammad b. Sa'id b. Hammad al-Sanhaji al-Busiri) was an Egyptian poet of Berber origin (1212-1294 or 97). He is famous for his masterpiece, the poem entitled "Kitab al-Kawâkib al-durriya fî madh khayr al-Barriyya", later known as "al-Burda", in reference to the burda (woollen cloak or coat) of the Prophet to which he refers in this poem.
