Pair of gold-lacquered wooden subjects on a reddish-brown background, depicting two kneeling monks, their hands joined in anjali, probably representing the Buddha's two main disciples, Mogallana and Sariputta, although the latter is usually depicted with one hand on the thigh and the other on the shin. These disciples were placed on either side of the Buddha, in the sanctuaries. Burma, late 18th-19th century. Height: 46 cm
