Paul JOUVE (1878-1973) Tower with the four faces of Brahma. Bayon of Angkor. Circa 1935. Copper engraving, black print. Proof on Japon imperial paper. Stamped with a panther head of the artist, lower right. Signed and justified lower left. Proof : 22,2 cm x 17 cm Following his stay in Angkor, from October to December 1922, Jouve painted several large canvases including this monk in front of the tower with four faces, at the Bayon of Angkor Thom. He then engraved this subject by choosing as a model one of his paintings made on his return from his trip to the Far East. He made a few rare prints from his engraving.
