Coat of arms of the Ottoman Empire Turkey, Ottoman art, Mehmet V period (1909-1918) Carved wooden emblem, painted in polychrome and gilded, consisting of a panoply comprising in a green circular medallion in the center of a sun, in which is inscribed the tughra of Sultan Mehmet V (1909-1918), and the motto of the Ottoman Empire. The panoply of the Ottoman Empire with its symbols unfolds underneath, around the Ottoman and Islamic flags, including the cornucopia, the scales and various weapons, axes and arrows. Under the golden scrolls hang four medals of the Ottoman decorative orders. Condition: wear, one piece detached, one attribute missing and a small piece detached. H: 40 cm - L: 40 cm The motto of the Ottoman Empire reads : " el-müstenid bi-tevfiqat-i rabbaniye melikü'd-devlet-i osmaniyye " (He who trusts in the divine success, the king of the Ottoman Empire) This wooden trophy with the Ottoman coat of arms was probably intended to be placed over the door of an official public building.
